Jake lives in St. Louis and bought the 2024 Blazzed Functional Trainer locally for around 3900 dollars. He chose it for the 210-pound weight stacks on each side and the built-in Smith machine with bench press and incline bars. The machine also has two pulleys per side, which let him do cable flyes and reverse flyes without extra equipment.

Over the year and a half he owned it, Jake used the trainer one or two times a week at most. He kept the cables and pulleys in good shape. There are no squeaks and the cables show no cracks or wear. The unit came with several attachments including a tricep V-bar, tricep rope, bicep curl bar, long flat lat pulldown bar, and an unused seat.

"I only use it for really two things, and I'm like, I think I'm just gonna end up downsizing to something smaller," Jake said. He mainly used the V-bar for pushdowns and the flat bar for curls, plus the cable setup for flyes. The Smith machine bars made bench and shoulder press possible without a spotter.

Jake still has dumbbells and another bench in his space, so the functional trainer takes up more room than he needs now. He listed it in like-new condition with all original components from the 2024 model year. The asking price is 3275 dollars.

The full conversation

The complete interview, lightly cleaned up for reading:

Commonplace: Hey, Jake?

Jake: Yes.

Commonplace: This is Aria. I was calling from Commonplace.

Jake: This is Ari.

Commonplace: I thought that you listed a Blaze functional trainer?

Jake: Yes.

Commonplace: Well, one thing we do to help some of the stuff sell a little faster is just call up the owners and ask a few questions that we add to the listing. So if you have, like, a minute or two, we just ask a few questions about it, and we would add it to the listing and promote it, like, on some of our social media, if that's okay with you.

Jake: Is there any cost to any of this?

Commonplace: Oh, no. No. It's totally free. You know, we just wanna do our part to help you sell it as soon as possible. So, you know, asking the questions upfront, you know, usually, you'll have, like, a bunch of buyers interested and then they'll ask a lot of the same questions. So we'll just save you a lot of that time by getting everything out here.

Jake: I appreciate it. Thank you.

Commonplace: Of course. So just, you know, just to jump into it, like, tell me a little bit about this functional trainer, why you bought it, you know, versus some of the other ones. This looks like it's in great condition. It's on the higher end. So tell me, you know, a little bit about it for somebody that's comparing this to some of the others they see on the site.

Jake: I I bought this one. So I bought it locally. I live in Saint Louis. I bought it locally from a from a a weightlifting company here. I chose this one really because it had the 200 pound 210 pound weight stacks on both sides. It had the it says Smith machines. We've got the bench press bar already with it with all the cable pulleys. I know it's not like your standard. I don't know. Everybody likes the Life Fitness and all the high end, like, brand names, but this one this one's expensive as well. I've even got I've even got it listed for a lot less than what I bought it for.

Commonplace: Do you remember what you paid for it?

Jake: But the only reason I'm selling it Oh, yeah. I end up I paid, what was it, $30.30 almost 3,900.

Commonplace: That's that's definitely a high end functional trainer.

Jake: Like I said, it's got everything that you need. I mean, it's got the weight stacks. It's got the all the cables. You can do lap pull downs. You can do lap pulls. I mean, you can do bench, incline, regular bench, shoulder press, biceps, trice. I mean, it's got the whole package to it. So and it came with a bunch of attachments and stuff. But no reason I'm selling it, really, is just I just really I only use it for really two things, and I'm like, I think I'm just gonna end up down downsizing to something smaller. So I was just gonna try to get some money for it while it was still I've only had it for had it probably for a year and a half.

Commonplace: So really not much use.

Jake: So Yeah.

Commonplace: And tell me a little bit about, you know, all of the accessories and the, you know, attachments that came with it.

Jake: So you've got you know, you can do, like, cable fly. So it's got two two cables on each side that you can put two pulleys on. You can do cable fly. You can do reverse flies with it. You got the tricep push down v bar. You've got the rope tricep rope. You've got the bicep curl standard bar standing. It's got the lat pull down bar. It's got a long flat lat pull down bar that you can use. And it also comes with a seat you can test. I've never even used the seat on it, but it's got a seat that you can connect connect onto it. What else? It's got what else do I use for it? I mean, that's really the main things I use for it. I use the tricep push down v bar, flat bar for for push down, and I do bicep curls with it. And then, like I said, you can do the fly. So you don't if you don't have your standard PecTech fly machine, you can use this with the cable fly. So it's almost like mimicking the PecTech fly, which is nice. And then you can do like I said, you can do which is nice because it's got the Smith machine bench press bar, inclined press bar. So if, you know, you don't have a spotter, all you gotta do is just turn it forward and it and it racks onto the smooth machine, so that makes it nice. But, yeah, that's that's mainly and then the accessories, like I said, each weight stack is 210 pounds. So, I mean, it's not just your you know, it's not just oinky dink, you know, 100 pound weight stacks. I mean, they're they're pretty up there. So and and that's cost a lot along with the you know, I paid for that along with the the the Smish machine bench press bar and the incline bar on it. So it's it's got everything you need. I mean, it's like all in all in one home gym, just in that thing. And I've got I've got dumbbells too down there, and I've got another bench press machine with a with a with a standard just regular bench bar that I use too. But, you know, I just I just don't use it as much. And I'm like, you know, it's just taking up room down there. I can downsize and try to get some money for it. You know what I mean? So Mhmm.

Commonplace: Absolutely. Totally get it. And, you know, in terms of, like, usage, is there any you know, you've obviously used it for a little over a year. So just tell me if there's any signs of usage, any squeaking on the pulleys, anything like that, you know, just to to make sure that the the next buyer is, like, aware of all these things.

Jake: No. No squeaky at all. No. The cape the cable ropes I mean, the plastic on the ropes or anything, whatever the lining is, I mean, it's there's no cracks. I mean, it's it's, like, brand new, like I said. And I I wanna work out I mean, I've had it for a year and a half, but I only work out most most two times a week, sometimes only once. So, I mean, it's really getting that much of less of use. Anyways, even having it after the year and a half, and I bought it brand new. So, I mean, it's it's in great shape. I know I'm gonna be probably losing my I would like to get 3,500 for it, but I, you know, I doubt I would even get that. I mean, I'd still be losing money even at 35, but I've got it listed for I think it's 2,800 right now or 3,000. So Sure.

Commonplace: Well, this was super helpful. We'll add all of this great info to the listing. So when anybody inquires, you know, they get the full story, not just the pictures. So, hopefully, you know, it it definitely adds a good value of of transparency when people are comparing listings. So thanks for taking the time. We'll do all that automatically, and we'll also post it on our YouTube feed so, you know, people can find it. And, yeah, basically, the way it works is Oh, no.

Jake: So what do you do? Do you do you take pictures off of like, say what where did you get it off? Like, Craigslist? Or Oh, yeah.

Commonplace: This is listed on Commonplace.

Jake: I list Song Complex. I didn't know I've been I've been tracking it to see if there's been any any, like, user.

Commonplace: So Oh, yeah.

Jake: It doesn't say, like, anybody's viewed it. I don't know. Is this I mean, is this a legit website?

Commonplace: A 100%. You know, pretty much the way it works is we pay you upon pickup.

Jake: Is it Sure.

Commonplace: You know, if there's any disassembly involved, we do that, and then we deliver it within thousand miles to the buyer. So, you know, this is just something that we do just to give a little bit more transparency. You know, when when you're buying something, say, on Facebook or Craigslist, you know, you usually have to ask a few questions and sometimes you have, like, 10 people messaging you. So we like to do these calls just to answer all those questions, you know, upfront. People understand the story, and then they're just ready to buy now, and and we do all the the moving and and listing.

Jake: It says so I originally listed it for, I think, 3,700, and it says, like, the amount, it went up to, like, 4,000. I don't know how that works.

Commonplace: So there is a base delivery rate that's added to the listing just to cover the the cost of labor. But if you're looking to get, like, 3,000 for it, you know, you could probably lower it a little bit and, you know, probably, like, 35, 3,600, you know, with delivery is probably a pretty good price.

Jake: Yes. I can't let's see what I have in I forgot what I even listed for here, to be honest.

Commonplace: Right now, it shows $37.75. That's what I'm seeing.

Jake: 30 $7.75. So if I so if I can so if I lower it, do you think, to edit it, maybe list it down to how much you said? 3?

Commonplace: So, yeah, let's say you put it at 3, like, right yeah. If you lowered it to 3, I think the price would go down to maybe 3,500. Just because there's a transaction fee for the platform of 20%, and then there's also a delivery fee that's baked in.

Jake: You tried it. Now it's still assembled, and I I really don't want anything to do with taking it apart. How does that do you guys take it apart?

Commonplace: Oh, yeah. You won't you won't have to lift the finger. We'd we'd take it all apart and then we reassemble it for the customer. And that's that's a big that's a big plus, you know, when it comes to not just fitness equipment but, like, hot tubs and saunas, you know, people don't wanna deal with that. So we we do the whole whole hassle of taking it apart, moving it, reassembling it, making sure everything is working and nothing is damaged.

Jake: And then the buyer pays you for all that. Correct? I don't Gotcha.

Commonplace: You just get you know, whatever the payout is when you're making your listing or adjusting the price, that's that's your payout, and you get paid immediately upon pickup. You don't have to worry about it getting delivered or anything like that.

Jake: If you know anybody who wants I've got another set of 100 pound dumbbells, 110, 120 down there. I've also listed on there. I've got those, I think, listed for I mean, it says the amount 1,500 all said and done.

Commonplace: Sweet.

Jake: But I think I listed I think I listed those for can you see those on there too?

Commonplace: I don't see all the listings on your account. I just see, like, a, you know, a long list of of products of it could be that there were other listings, you know, made in between when you were making the listings. I don't see them upfront, but you should be able to see your listings from your account when you log in.

Jake: Well, cool. I will I will get that changed. I just changed it. So it had the total price of 4,000. I then I none of the price. I just put 3,000. So Yeah. So I did I just updated it. But yeah. I've also got dumbbells on there if you wanna take a look at those too. I've been trying to get rid of those. I just don't use those either. So I'm just trying to clear out some stuff.

Commonplace: For sure. If possible, I'll I'll give you a callback and and talk to you about the dumbbells in a minute.

Jake: I'm a be getting the shower. So if I miss it, I'll give you a callback.

Commonplace: No worries.

Jake: Where are you guys out of?

Commonplace: We operate nationwide. We have, you know, over 3,000 delivery drivers picking up and dropping stuff off, you know, pretty much everywhere, you know, including, like, Montana and Oklahoma and Texas, like, pretty much everywhere. But our office is in New York City.

Jake: Oh, wow. Oh, okay. That's really cool. And you work for this commonwealth or common place?

Commonplace: I I work for Commonplace.

Jake: Oh, okay. Right on. And what was your name?

Commonplace: My name is Ari.

Jake: My name is Ari. Ari. Well, I appreciate your time, Ari, and hopefully, we can get this thing sold.
