Colette listed the StairMaster Free Climber Stepper for her father Thomas. They bought the machine in 2021 from a company that refurbishes StairMaster equipment.

Thomas paid two thousand dollars for the chain-driven model. It came with a working heart rate monitor and has stayed in good condition inside a smoke-free home with no pets nearby.

Colette said the family tested it and confirmed everything works. She added that it has seen very little use. Thomas estimated roughly two dozen sessions total since purchase.

"We don't use it," Colette explained. "It works fine, but we just don't need it. We have gym memberships." The machine ended up serving mainly as a spot to drape clothes.

Thomas described it as a solid piece that can take punishment, though it never got much of a workout at home. The family is moving to Florida and decided not to take the large unit along.

"We're trying to get some money back on it," Colette noted. The asking price sits at twenty-one hundred seventy-five dollars.

The full conversation

The complete interview, lightly cleaned up for reading:

Commonplace: Good morning. How's it going? This is Ari. I'm calling from Commonplace. I saw that you listed a StairMaster.

Colette: Who yes.

Commonplace: And your name is Colette? The only reason I'm calling is actually one thing that we like to do to advertise your listing is just ask you a few questions about the stair stepper, and that kind of also helps you answer all the questions up front so you don't get bombarded by buyers, you know, asking the same questions over and over again, like, you may experience on some of the other platforms. So if you have, like, a a few minutes, I'd love to just, you know, ask you some basic questions about it, and then we'll add this conversation in in, like, a blog format to the listing, if that's okay.

Colette: I can do my best to answer if I'm not near it now. But yeah.

Commonplace: That's totally fine. Just, you know, try our best. They should be, you know, pretty straightforward. So just tell me, you know, a little bit about when you bought it, why you bought this one versus, you know, some of the other stair masters or stair steppers, and, you know, the condition that it's in and then ultimately why you're selling it now.

Colette: So I can answer the latter two first. I'll get back to you on the first two. Can I call you back on the number you're calling on now? I can try to ask yeah.

Commonplace: Absolutely.

Colette: Because my dad was the one that got it. I I didn't get it, but I'm just helping him sell it. So the reason why we're selling it is because we don't use it. It works fine, but we just don't need it. We have gym memberships, and we use, you know, stuff like that there.

Commonplace: For sure. So it's like a glorified clothing rack?

Colette: And then, yeah, yeah, I mean, I don't know. I feel like at home exercise equipment is for certain people, and we're just not those people. So it works great. I mean, barely used. We're moving down to Florida, and we are not taking it down there. That's just gonna be too much of a hassle. So we just want it gone. And because they cost a lot, I mean, we don't wanna just, like, give it away. So we're trying to get some money back on it.

Commonplace: These are are definitely not cheap, but you're, you know, you're listing it at a great price. So whoever, you know, is looking to buy one of these stair climbers, they're getting, like, a a really great a really great deal. But if you could tell me, like, a little bit about, like, the condition that it's in, if there was any maintenance, like, any lubricant added to it over the years. Do you remember what year you bought it?

Colette: I don't. I can call my dad and just check with him on that those figures because I just I don't know. I'm just helping him sell this because he's not savvy. But with posting. But, yeah, I can I know that it's in good condition? I mean, I know, like, we've tested it out to see if it works, and it does. It just kinda, like, sits in an area where it's, you know, not really touched. So smoke free home. There shouldn't be, you know, any interaction with, like, pets near it. So I think it's they're on that cap on that as well.

Commonplace: For sure. And does it have, like, a heart rate monitoring sensor on it?

Colette: I think so. Can I try to call my dad and, like, have you on the phone? Maybe he can answer these questions, like, right now or okay.

Commonplace: For sure.

Colette: Give me one second. I'm just gonna try to call him.

Commonplace: No problem.

Colette: Thanks. I don't think it's gonna let me add in someone else.

Commonplace: Are you on an iPhone?

Colette: Let me try to give me one second.

Commonplace: There's usually, like, a merge call button.

Colette: Hold on. Give me one sec. Hold on. Oh, add people. Hey, Arna. My dad, Thomas, on the phone.

Commonplace: My name is Ari. I was just calling from Commonplace. I think your daughter listed a stair stepper that you may or may not have used, but you have in your garage.

Colette: Correct.

Commonplace: So I was just calling to ask a few questions about it, like, when you bought it, you know, why you bought this model specifically versus some of the others that are out there.

Colette: Yes.

Commonplace: And if you can just fill us in on a little bit of the condition that it's in, some of the features that you like, you know, just somebody that is looking for it, for a good stair stepper, has some of the info that they need to make a purchasing decision.

Colette: So we bought it during COVID in 2021, I guess. I I bought it from a I didn't buy it brand new. I bought it from a a company that does all refurbished StairMaster equipment. So I bought I bought it for 2,000. I didn't buy it for a song. You know? And, you know, it it works beautifully. It's just too big, and it's just not suitable. And we're gonna be moving to Florida, so it's nothing I wanna bring along.

Commonplace: I get it. And does everything work on it? And I was just asking if there happens to be, like, a heart rate monitor on it, like, a sensor that that works, or if you could fill me in on the resistance levels and things like that.

Colette: There is. It yeah. It has. It's you know, I'm not sure what model year it is, but, you know, it's chain driven and it's, you know, it's a beast. I mean, it it it it can take a lot of punishment, I guess, and we didn't get a a whole lot of use out of it for whatever reason. I I rejoined the gym once the gym's opened back up, and that was kind of a it just became a place to hang clothes on. You know?

Commonplace: I was I was joking. It's a glorified clothing rack.

Colette: He did say that Yes. Where it was just kind of like An expensive one too, by the by the way.

Commonplace: They're they're a few thousand dollars when they're new. So it's great that you got a awesome deal on it. I'm sure whoever refurbished it, you know, probably went through everything, made sure everything is working. Can you estimate, like, how many times have you used it since you bought it?

Colette: Yes. Maybe two dozen times, I guess, over the past handful of years.

Commonplace: So really not much.

Colette: My my other daughter used it as much or more than I did. So Sure.

Commonplace: Well, fair enough. Just so you know how it works and whoever is listening to this knows how it works. Pretty much what we do at Commonplace is we'll do a full inspection when we come to pick it up, you know, a 30 to 50 inspection, make sure everything is good. We'll send all that info over to the buyer as well. We pay you upon pickup, you know, however you wanna get paid pretty much, and then we'll pick it up. We'll deliver it to the customer, set it up for them, show them how everything works, and then we give them a free warranty as well. So we kinda manage, you know, everything end to end so you don't have strangers coming to your home, you know, and trying to haggle with you upon pickup. So we just make it as easy and transparent as possible for everybody. And if it's okay with you, I'll add this conversation as, like, a blog post as well as the clip onto the listing just so when people are browsing at the product, you know, they get all of the information that they need so they can make a purchasing decision.

Colette: Very good.

Commonplace: Well, thank you both. Thanks so much for the time. And, yeah, I hope to help you get it sold. And if you have anything else that's, you know, big, and, you know, over $500, we do the full inspection and, you know, payments, and we help you find buyers. We deliver it to them and all of that. So anything from, like, furniture to, like, hot tubs and gym equipment or kitchen appliances, things like that, we definitely do that. And if you're going to Florida and you need a golf cart or jet ski, we we do those as well. So keep this in mind.

Colette: I see. Very good, my friend. I also posted you might you might have seen it on my account. I also posted a four drawer storage bed on there that I so the Stairmaster is down in New Jersey, but I'm up in Albany, New York, so I changed the location for that post. But, yeah, I also posted that on there. I didn't have, like, a lot of photos of it because I'd wanna, like, move my mattress around, but yeah.

Commonplace: Sweet. Fair enough. I mean, the we really specialize in, like, the more, I guess, higher end or something that's expensive, you know, because we charge for delivery. And, you know, things on the higher end that people kind of feel like it's worth paying for a delivery, those tend to do better. So, you know, like like a StairMaster or, like, a refrigerator or, you know, a golf cart, for example. So I would say those things definitely move a lot faster.

Colette: And that does qualify. Got it.

Commonplace: Well, both of you have a great have a great day.

Colette: Thank you very much, sir.

Commonplace: Thank you again for doing this, and we'll try to sell it as soon as possible.

Colette: You too. Thank you. Thank you. Have a nice day.

Commonplace: Take care.
