Kyle bought the Tread+ in 2020 for home workouts. It handled daily runs and walks without issue until the screen failed.

The motor still drives the belt through its full speed range and the incline works as designed. The wide deck stays stable during use.

Kyle had the screen replaced once already. He kept the original and plans to include it with the sale. Even so the new screen never responded to touch.

He said the problem appeared without any clear trigger. Kyle suspects a wiring issue between the screen and the base. He explained, "It's not the screen."

The machine now sits locked behind a passcode that cannot be entered. Kyle noted, "I can't actually interact with the machine." He grew tired of chasing service from Peloton and decided to move on.

When the unit ran it performed well. Kyle recalled, "When I was able to get it to work, everything else was flawless." He is offering the Tread+ at $1,650 in its current state.

The full conversation

The complete interview, lightly cleaned up for reading:

Kyle: I'm a call assistant recording this call for the person you're trying to reach. Please say who you are and why you're calling.

Commonplace: This is Ari calling from Commonplace about your Peloton Tread Plus.

Kyle: This is Kyle.

Commonplace: Hey, Kyle. How's it going?

Kyle: Good. How are you?

Commonplace: I just wanted to ask you a few questions about your Peloton Tread Plus. Do you have a few minutes?

Kyle: Go ahead.

Commonplace: So I was just looking at the listing. It looks great. It says here that the screen isn't working. Just wanted to clarify, you know, what's working, what's not working on the machine.

Kyle: So you can see from the picture that the screen actually it it it looks like it's working, but the touchscreen itself doesn't work. So you can't, like, actually interact with the screen.

Commonplace: So the screen doesn't work, but can you turn it on? Like, do the slots work?

Kyle: So I can't because I can't put in my passcode, I can't actually in interact with the machine, like the knobs and stuff. I I can't get the the tread started. I can't, you know, raise the incline or anything like that. So that's why I'm getting rid of it.

Commonplace: So whoever would buy this would probably just replace the screen.

Kyle: I'm I I don't know what they would do, but they're gonna have to deal with Peloton to try to get it to work.

Commonplace: Is that what you're thinking?

Kyle: Yes.

Commonplace: Any reason why you would think that the screen doesn't work or it just stopped working one day?

Kyle: So it's not like, you know, there was, you know, some sort of event that triggered the functionality to stop. I've actually had the screen replaced, and I still have the other screen downstairs, which I'd be happy to give to whoever decided to buy it. I don't know if it's the screen or something else functionally wrong with Peloton, but I was frustrated with their service. And so I just said, the hell with it. I'll just get something different.

Commonplace: That is super frustrating. That's crazy. Well, you know, is it okay if we use some of this to basically add to your listing just so, you know, whoever is looking at this listing? Because it is, you know, probably one of the best price tread pluses. I just want it to be transparent, you know, and it is in writing, but I just want them to get all the context around, you know, the treadmill so that they know what they're getting themselves into.

Kyle: That's fine. It's fine. Whoever is buying it should know that there's a you know, they're they're not buying a ready to go treadmill that they're gonna have to figure out how to fix it. I just don't wanna deal with it anymore.

Commonplace: For sure. Well Uh-huh.

Kyle: I mean but when I was able to get it to work, everything else was flawless. It's just, for whatever reason, there's some sort of glitch or something that I can't get the damn screen to the the touchscreen to work.

Commonplace: And it's so weird that you even replaced the screen and it still it still doesn't work. So it's not it's not the screen. It's kind of the connection between the thread. Interesting. Well, thanks for the time.

Kyle: Potentially. I I don't know what it is. So tell me how this works.

Commonplace: It's it's unfortunate.

Kyle: So if you guys are able to solicit a buyer, is that a local buyer, or is there anyone anywhere anywhere in the world or whatever?

Commonplace: So we we deliver we deliver these treadmills within a thousand miles.

Kyle: I'm like, how does that work?

Commonplace: And I know the TreadPlus is, like, super heavy, so we'll have a team of four people come in, disassemble it, and then move it, and then reassemble it for whoever the buyer is.

Kyle: Oh, okay.

Commonplace: And that's kind of our service, and then we'll pay you upon pickup in full.

Kyle: Got it.

Commonplace: However you prefer Venmo, PayPal, bank transfer, or Cash App.

Kyle: Got it.

Commonplace: Well, yeah. Hope we can we can sell it.

Kyle: And and you guys communicate with me as as as I find as you find buyers? Like, how does this work? I've never dealt dealt with you guys before.

Commonplace: Absolutely. I'm happy to tell you more. So, basically, we'll whenever there's an offer, you'll receive a text as well as an email. You'll be able to either accept the offer or counter, kind of like on eBay if you've ever used that. And then if somebody buys it outright or accepts your offer and and, you know, orders it or reserves it, because we have, like, a $1 reserve system, you'll be notified. And then we have, like, a pre pickup inspection, which is basically, like, a quick form, answer a few questions, take a few photos, just so that, you know, they can make sure that the condition that it's being picked up and it's the same as as you're listing, if anything changed over that time, which I'm sure, you know, for this listing is not gonna be a problem. And then, yeah, we schedule a pickup date on your schedule. We come in, you know, with the whole team, with with our crew, with all of the equipment to take it apart, and then we take it out. And you, obviously, you get paid upon pickup.

Kyle: Sounds good. Hope it works.

Commonplace: Well, have a great rest of your day, and thanks so much for taking the call.

Kyle: Thank you. Take care.

Commonplace: You got it.
