A Ronan massage chair lists for about $2,999 new; NoTired's L183 sells near $1,300. What 2D, 3D and 4D change, what to test used, the warranty risk, and what to pay.

A Ronan massage chair like the RM275 lists for about $2,999 new, and NoTired's popular L183 shows a $2,299 regular price that often gets discounted to around $1,300. Used, these budget 4D chairs land in a tighter band. We've had a brand new Ronan RM275 listed at $1,725 and a like new NoTired SL-track chair at $1,475. Both brands can be worth buying used, but only if you test them hard and price in the warranty risk.
I help people buy and sell massage chairs for a living, and the budget brands are a growing share of what crosses my desk. They look like the $8,000 chairs in photos. Some of them feel close. Some don't. Here's what Ronan and NoTired actually are, what 2D, 3D and 4D really change, what to test on a used chair, what happens if the brand disappears, what these chairs sell for, and how to move one.
Ronan and NoTired are budget full-body massage chair brands sold mostly through online retailers, not through showrooms. That's the first thing to understand. You're not buying from a company with a dealer network and service vans. You're buying a chair that ships in a box.
The Ronan RM275 is the model I see most. Its retail listing describes a 4D L-track with body scanning, 40 air cells, heat, leg and lumbar massage, 15 auto programs and Bluetooth speakers, at $2,999. On paper that's a feature list you'd find on chairs costing twice as much.
NoTired sells a range. The L183 is its mainstream chair, with a 52 inch SL-track and airbags covering the shoulders, arms, calves and feet. Retailers show it at a $2,299 regular price and around $1,300 to $1,360 on sale. The Space Walk S002 is its upmarket 4D model at roughly $3,200 to $3,600.
Are they any good? Honestly, I couldn't find serious independent reviews of either brand. Plenty of retailer listings, very little real testing. So I judge them the way I judge any chair: by what it does when I sit in it, not by the spec sheet. A budget massage chair is a feature list at a price. A premium massage chair is a feature list plus a company that will still fix it in five years. That difference is the whole decision.
The D number describes how the rollers move, and each step adds one thing. It's simpler than the marketing makes it sound.
| Roller type | What it adds | What you feel |
|---|---|---|
| 2D | Up and down, side to side | Rollers trace your back at a fixed depth. Fine, a bit flat. |
| 3D | Rollers push in and out | You can set intensity. The biggest single jump in feel. |
| 4D | Variable speed and rhythm | Feels less mechanical, more like hands changing pace. |
My take: 3D is the step that matters. 4D is nice. On a budget chair, the quality of the roller mechanism matters more than the letter on the box. A well-built 3D chair beats a sloppy 4D one every time.
Track shape matters too. An S-track follows the curve of your spine. An L-track keeps going under the seat to reach your glutes and hamstrings. An SL-track combines both. The Ronan RM275 is an L-track and the NoTired L183 is an SL-track, so both reach under you. For a full breakdown of tracks, fit and space, see my massage chair buying guide.
Testing a used budget massage chair takes 20 to 30 minutes, and you need to run every program. Don't sit through one auto mode and call it good. Ask the seller to leave it plugged in and give you the remote.
When you buy through us, our drivers run a 30 to 50 point inspection at pickup and send you photos and a video of the chair running before it ships. Then you get time with it at home before you pay.
If the brand disappears, the warranty disappears with it. That's the real risk with budget massage chairs, and it's bigger than any spec difference.
Retailers advertise warranties on these chairs. NoTired's L183 listing shows a two year warranty, for example. But I couldn't find warranty terms or a claim process published by NoTired itself, or any warranty terms for the Ronan RM275. And a second owner usually has a weaker claim than the original buyer anyway.
So here's how I'd think about it. Assume a used Ronan or NoTired has no factory warranty. Then ask whether the price still makes sense. A chair that works perfectly on the day you test it will usually keep working for a while. Rollers, airbags and recline motors are the parts that fail, and on an off-brand chair, finding the exact replacement part can take some hunting. Some local appliance and furniture repair shops will work on massage chairs. Many won't.
This is where buying through a marketplace with its own coverage helps. Every chair we sell comes with a 60 day warranty from us, which covers the window when most hidden problems show up.
A used budget massage chair should cost meaningfully less than its current sale price new, not its inflated regular price. That's the trap. These brands show high list prices and constant sales, so a seller who quotes you "half of retail" may be quoting half of a number nobody pays.
| Chair | New (retail listing) | Used on Commonplace |
|---|---|---|
| Ronan RM275 4D L-track | $2,999 | $1,725 (new, listed 2026) |
| NoTired L183 SL-track | $2,299 regular, about $1,300 sale | $1,475 (like new SL-track, listed 2026) |
| NoTired Space Walk S002 4D | About $3,200 to $3,600 | Not enough data yet |
| All used massage chairs | Typical retail around $8,000 | Median about $2,825 |
Look at that last row. The median used massage chair on our marketplace lists for about $2,825, and the middle half falls between $1,475 and $4,775, per our used massage chair price index. That's the real competition for a budget chair. At $1,500 to $2,800 used, you can often buy a premium brand chair that's a few years old instead of a nearly new budget one.
My rule of thumb: pay no more than about 70% of the current new sale price for a used budget chair in like new condition, and less for anything with wear. If the NoTired L183 is on sale for $1,300 new, a used one should be under $1,000. The $1,475 SL-track listing only made sense because it was a newer, higher-end model. For brand-by-brand pricing on the premium names, see my used massage chair buying guide.
Carefully, and with two people at minimum. Most full-body massage chairs weigh well over 200 pounds, and the weight sits in the frame and motors, not spread out evenly. This is the part most private sellers underestimate.
Many chairs let you detach the leg rest, and some let you remove the armrest panels or backrest cushions. That makes the chair narrower and lighter, but the main body usually stays in one heavy piece. Check the manual or the seller's notes before moving day. Measure every doorway and stairwell on the route. Wrap the faux leather, because one scrape against a doorframe will crack it.
Or skip it. We deliver massage chairs, carry them in and set them up. You don't need to rent a truck or find helpers.
The right call depends on your budget and how much you'll actually use the chair. Here's how I'd decide:
It can be. The RM275 has a strong feature list for its price: 4D L-track, body scan, 40 air cells, heat and Bluetooth. There's very little independent testing of the brand, so test any used one thoroughly before buying.
NoTired is a budget brand sold mainly through online retailers. I couldn't find much about its company or support structure, which is exactly why I treat used NoTired chairs as having no factory warranty.
Not always. 3D adds adjustable roller depth, which is the biggest improvement in feel. 4D adds variable speed and rhythm. On a budget chair, build quality matters more than the D number.
Usually 50% to 70% of the current sale price new, depending on condition. Watch out for sellers quoting a percentage off an inflated regular price.
Partly. Many let you remove the leg rest and some side panels, but the main body stays in one heavy piece, usually well over 200 pounds.
