A used 2022 Club Car golf cart lists for about $7,810 at the median on Commonplace, with most between $6,400 and $10,900. That's a wide spread for one model year, and it's almost entirely explained by which Club Car you're looking at. A 2022 Onward and a 2022 Tempo are both "2022 Club Cars," and they can be four thousand dollars apart.

I help people buy and sell golf carts for a living, and Club Car is the brand I see most often on our marketplace. The 2022 model year is especially interesting right now, because a lot of carts from that year are hitting the resale market at the same time. This guide covers which Club Car model to look for, what to inspect, the red flags, and what a fair price actually is.

Which 2022 Club Car golf cart models will you find used?

A 2022 Club Car golf cart for sale is almost always one of two carts: the Onward or the Tempo. They come from the same company but were built for different buyers.

  • Club Car Onward. The consumer cart. Sold to homeowners in two, four and six passenger layouts, often lifted, often with the HP Lithium pack. This is the one with custom wheels, rear flip seats and a premium price.
  • Club Car Tempo. The fleet cart. Built for golf courses, usually a plain two-seater with a bag rack. Most of them get leased to courses and resold when the lease ends.
  • Older names you'll still see. The Precedent was the platform before both, and the DS goes back decades. If a listing calls a cart a "2022 Precedent," check the serial number before you believe the year.

Here's why 2022 matters. Golf courses typically lease their carts for a few years and then turn the whole fleet over at once. Fleet carts from the early 2020s are coming off those leases now, which is why so many used 2022 Club Car Tempos are for sale, many of them refreshed with new seats, new paint, a lift kit and sometimes a lithium conversion.

That's not a bad thing. A well-refreshed fleet Tempo can be a great cart. But you should know you're buying one, and you should price it as one.

What a used 2022 Club Car golf cart costs

A used 2022 Club Car golf cart costs between about $6,400 and $10,900, and the model decides where in that range it lands. These are the prices Club Car carts list for on Commonplace in 2026.

Club Car modelTypical used priceMost sell betweenWho it's for
OnwardAbout $10,750$9,200 to $12,900Homeowners who want the current consumer cart
TempoAbout $6,870$5,800 to $7,900Value buyers happy with a refreshed fleet cart
PrecedentAbout $6,940$5,500 to $7,600Buyers who want a proven older platform
DSAbout $4,250$2,800 to $4,800Budget buyers, farms and big lots
Any 2022 Club CarAbout $7,810$6,400 to $10,900Mixed: mostly Onwards and Tempos

Gas Club Cars list at a median of about $8,250. That's higher than the brand-wide median of roughly $7,000, mostly because gas carts tend to be newer and come from private owners rather than fleets.

So is a used 2022 Club Car worth it over new? Usually yes. Golf carts hold value unusually well, so you won't get a car-style discount, but a three or four year old cart has taken its biggest hit already and still has most of its life left. If you want the month-by-month numbers for every brand, the golf cart price index tracks completed sales.

What to inspect on a used Club Car golf cart before buying

The battery pack, the steel parts bolted to the aluminum frame, and the cart's history decide whether a used Club Car golf cart is a good buy.

Club Car's big selling point is its aluminum frame. Aluminum doesn't rust the way steel does, which is why Club Cars hold up so well near the coast. But the frame isn't the whole cart. The leaf springs, the front suspension, the rear axle and the battery hold-downs are steel, and they rust like any steel does.

Here's what I'd check, in order:

  1. Battery age and type. Ask for the date. A lead-acid pack lasts roughly four to six years, so a 2022 cart on original lead-acid batteries is near replacement. Lithium lasts far longer. Our lead-acid vs lithium battery guide covers what each costs to replace.
  2. The battery tray. Lift the seat. Acid that leaked over the years eats the tray and the hold-downs. Heavy corrosion here is a real repair.
  3. The serial plate. On a Club Car, the two digits after the letters are the build year, and the next two are the week. So a serial with 22 in that spot was built in 2022. Our guide to dating a golf cart shows where to find it.
  4. Fleet signs. Worn pedals, a bag rack, mismatched new seats on an old body, and a governed top speed all point to a fleet cart. Fine, if the price matches.
  5. The drive. Take it up a hill and over a bump. Listen for clunks in the front end and watch for hesitation when you press the pedal.
  6. The charger. Make sure it's there and that it actually charges the cart.

Common Club Car problems and red flags

Club Car golf carts are durable, and most problems on a 2022 cart come from how it was used, not how it was built.

The issues I see most:

  • Tired lead-acid packs on fleet Tempos. Course carts get charged every night for years. By resale, the pack is often done.
  • Rust on steel suspension parts, even though the frame itself is clean.
  • Poor lift kit installs on refreshed fleet carts. A good lift rides well. A bad one wears tires unevenly and wanders on the road.
  • Speed-limited fleet carts. Many course carts are set to a lower top speed. That can usually be changed, but ask before you assume.
  • Gas engine neglect. Newer gas Club Cars use a Subaru-built engine and older ones a Kawasaki. Both are good engines when the oil gets changed. Ask when it last was.

The red flags are about honesty, not hardware. Slow down if the seller calls a refreshed fleet Tempo an Onward, can't explain the battery date, won't let you drive it, or the serial plate is missing or doesn't match the year in the ad. And if you plan to drive on public roads, ask whether it's a titled low-speed vehicle. Lights and a horn alone don't make a cart street legal.

Club Car Onward vs Tempo: which used 2022 Club Car to buy

The Onward is the better cart, and the Tempo is the better value. That's the whole decision in one line.

If you want the current consumer cart with factory options, comfortable seating for four or six, and the strongest resale, buy a used Club Car Onward. You'll pay roughly $10,750 for it. We cover every Onward trim, the HP Lithium pack and what breaks in our Club Car Onward buying guide.

If you want a solid cart for the neighborhood and don't care about the badge on the back, a refreshed used Club Car Tempo at around $6,870 saves you nearly four thousand dollars. Just make sure the refresh included the battery pack, not only the paint and seats.

How to buy a used Club Car without the usual headaches

The safest way to buy a used Club Car golf cart is to have someone other than the seller inspect it, and to pay only after it's in your driveway and you've driven it.

Private sales rarely work that way. You end up driving an hour to look at a cart, handing over cash, then figuring out how to get a 1,000-pound vehicle home without a trailer. That's the gap we built Commonplace to close. When you buy a golf cart through us, it's inspected at pickup, delivered to you, and you pay when it arrives. It's covered by a 60-day warranty after that. The details are on our how it works page.

My decision list for a used 2022 Club Car golf cart:

  1. Buy an Onward if you want the best cart and the best resale, and can spend around $10,000.
  2. Buy a refreshed Tempo if value matters most, but only with a recent or new battery pack.
  3. Pick lithium if you'll keep the cart five years or longer.
  4. Check the serial on every cart. The ad's year and the real year often differ.
  5. Inspect the steel parts, not just the aluminum frame.
  6. Drive it before you pay. Always.

Frequently asked questions about used 2022 Club Car golf carts

How much is a 2022 Club Car golf cart worth?

About $7,810 at the median, with most listed between $6,400 and $10,900. An Onward sits near the top of that range and a fleet Tempo near the bottom.

Is a used Club Car Tempo a good buy?

Often, yes. A Tempo is a fleet cart, so it's had a working life, but it's well built and parts are easy to find. The battery pack is what decides whether it's a deal.

Do Club Car golf carts rust?

The frame doesn't, because it's aluminum. The steel parts attached to it can, including the leaf springs, front suspension and battery hold-downs. Check those on any coastal cart.

How do I tell if a Club Car is really a 2022?

Read the serial plate. On a Club Car, the two digits after the letter prefix are the year of manufacture. If those read 22, it's a 2022.

Is a 2022 Club Car golf cart street legal?

Not by default. A standard Club Car is a golf cart. Only carts built or converted and titled as low-speed vehicles can go on public roads, and the rules vary by state.
