As Ari Kimmelfeld, founder of Commonplace, I know buying big used items can feel like a gamble. But we’re here to change that. This post cuts through the noise and gets straight to the facts about this specific El Paso swim spa, so you know exactly what you’re getting.

We know it turns on, and you get 60 minutes to test it yourself.
The current owner confirms the swim spa turns on and the jets make noise, but Commonplace provides 60 minutes for a buyer to test it with water before payment.
Buying used, especially big ticket items like a used Max Spa swim spa, often means taking a huge leap of faith on condition. You worry about hidden defects, non-functional components, or outright scams. This uncertainty can lead to expensive repairs or a useless item sitting in your yard. But here’s the deal: Commonplace drivers will verify it powers on at pickup, and you get a full 60 minutes upon delivery to test everything with water before your payment finalizes. So you can buy with confidence, knowing what you see (and test) is what you get.

A 2018 Max Spa at a third of its original price, with a clear reason for selling.
This Max Spa brand swim spa, purchased around $35,000 in 2018, is listed for $12,749 because the current owner’s neighbors are concerned about its weight causing erosion.
You’re looking at a “fair condition” item, and that can mean anything from minor cosmetic issues to functional problems. It’s tough to gauge real value when the original price was around $35,000, and it’s now listed for $12,749. This price gap and vague condition can make you question if you’re getting a deal or a money pit. The owner openly admits they’re selling it because neighbors are complaining about the weight causing erosion on a backyard hill, and it’s under a concrete base. This transparency helps you understand the situation upfront, letting you assess if the discount justifies the potential site work or verification needed.

Full interview transcript
Below is the full conversation with the owner of this swim spa, recorded when they listed it on Commonplace. It is the actual seller interview, unedited, so you can hear first-hand why it is for sale, its condition, and what is included.
Hello? Hi, is this Yemio? Yes. Hi, this is Ari. I just wanted to ask you a few questions for doing a video series where we ask some of the owners of the Swim Spas a few questions and we can add this interview with some of the answers onto the listing just to help it sell better.
I’ll advertise the interview as well if that’s okay. Okay. Okay, so you have like 5 to 10 minutes right now? Yeah, I do. Okay, perfect.
So I’ll jump right into it. So you’re listening to the Commonplace Talk Show. We have real owners, real listings, and commonplaces where you’ll buy and sell high-value items the safe way. We verify everything, we hold the payments in escrow, and we handle the delivery to your door. And here we have a Swim Spa that is in fair condition, it’s 15×5×6×5ft, and it has 30 jets, and it’s in El Paso.
Texas. It’s listed for a fraction of what it sells for retail, and I’m here with the owner. So can you give me a little bit about the Swim Spa and why you’re selling it now? Yeah, so the Swim Spa, we purchased a house and the Swim Spa was already there. The person who purchased it, the owner, previous owner, said everything works.
We haven’t personally tested it. It does turn on, so when I turn on the jets, I hear the jets go. It is a max spa brand. The owner purchased it in 2018. The city purchased it around $35,000, somewhere around there.
And we’re just trying to get rid of it because it’s on a backyard, it’s on a hill, and the neighbors downstairs below us, they complain about the weight and they believe that it’s bringing down, it’s causing some erosion. So we just don’t want any more issues with our farm downstairs neighbors, and we’re just trying to give them a peace of mind. So that’s why we’re selling it. Gotcha. Okay.
Well, that’s great to know. It sounds like you haven’t really filled it up with water or tested it, but based on what the prior owner told you, everything should be working. Is that right? Correct. Yes, it does turn on.
And yeah, we probably will put water. Do you know any of the electrical requirements that are required for it to be hooked up? Like 220 voltage? Is that… Yeah.
Yeah. Okay. Yes, 220. And is there like a concrete base under it, or what is it sitting on? It is under a concrete base.
Okay, perfect. Yeah, that’s the recommended swim spa guide is just to have like a one inch concrete slab under the swim spa. And based on how it is, is it going to require a crane to lift it up and take it out? Yes. Okay.
Great. So commonplace deals with all of that. We have cranes available for pickup and for delivery. Most swim spas require a crane. So you need a licensed crane operator to move it in and out.
And I guess do you have any of the maintenance history on it? Was anything replaced or anything upgraded? Did the prior owner let you know anything about that? No, he didn’t leave me any of that. Okay.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about the swim spa that we haven’t already talked about? I know you haven’t used it, but if there’s any other information that might be helpful for a potential buyer, we’d love to have it on the show. It has a digital… It has a digital display on the side. It helps you turn it into your jet.
Yeah, that has the option to turn on the jets or different jets within it. Yeah, but you are aware it’s a swim spa, so it is pushy with the current, so you turn those on as well. Mm-hmm. Yeah, but yeah, no, there’s nothing else I have to add. Okay.
Well, thank you very much. I will add this brief clip to the listing as well. So in our ads, it’ll show, and if anybody’s curious, they’ll have this information, which should be helpful. So thank you very much. That’s all.
And have a great rest of your day. Thank you. You too. Of course. Bye-bye.
